18th Annual General Meeting of the MGS
Australia - 20 October to 1 November 2012

All members are invited to attend the 18th Annual General Meeting of the Mediterranean Garden Society which will take place during spring in Australia from 21 October to 1 November 2012. Because of the long journey that this will involve for non-Australian members, the event has been arranged in three separate sections to allow flexibility for participants. It is suggested that members arrive in Melbourne on Saturday 20 October.

The pre-AGM Melbourne days
This will include an informal day on Sunday 21 October at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne, followed by two days a of garden visits including  a visit to the Cranbourne Australian Botanic Garden on Mornington Peninsula and a guided tour of Lambley’s Nursery.

The AGM, Adelaide
Members taking the Melbourne package will be flown to Adelaide mid-morning on Wednesday 24 October, arriving at lunch time (a group booking will be organised to help keep the cost of this flight down). They will be collected from the airport and taken to their hotels. Members flying in to Adelaide from other countries will have decided on their own arrival time. The Welcome Reception will be held on this Wednesday evening.

A programme of garden visits will take place on Thursday 25, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 October including day tours to the renowned wine regions of the Fleurieu Peninsula and the Barossa Valley. Highlights will include visits to the gardens of  South Australian branch MGS founding member, Trevor Nottle and former branch heads Virginia Kennett and Gayle Otto.

The General Assembly will be held after lectures, workshops and tours at the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide on Friday 26 October.

The post-AGM optional days
There will be day trips from Adelaide on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 October, followed by a two-day trip to Kangaroo Island on Wednesday 31 October and Thursday 1 November.

The complete programme, details of hotels and a registration form will be published in early May. In the meantime members can visit our tourism website here or seek travel advice here.
