Past Events

April 2008
Will Giles' talk on Exotic Plants for Temperate Climates

Since our Pacific Northwest branch began to form and connect with the Puget Sound area gardening community, we have held two tours of members' gardens, which attracted visitors from the entire area. The interest in new plants suitable for the Northwest was so evident from those attending the tours that we decided to use the donations to bring British gardener and garden writer Will Giles to talk here.

Will Giles is the author of "The Encyclopedia of Exotic Plants for Temperate Climates" (Timber Press, 2007), a work with 1,400 entries that seems as though it were written with the Pacific Northwest in mind. He has been one of the innovators on  the English scene for almost 20 years with his garden near Norwich in East Anglia.(See his site at www.exoticgarden.com.)

He spoke at both the Islandwood environmental centre on Bainbridge Island and at the Bloedel Reserve, also on Bainbridge Island.
