Happy New Year

Since March 2009 the Administrative Committee has been meeting at the house of Reserve Member Fulla Chapple who sets up a Skype connection for absent committee members. Those of us fortunate enough to be physically present, and that often includes Reserve Member Alisdair Aird who flies in from the UK (and then goes on to his holiday home in the Mani), enjoy the panoramic view from Fulla's living-room across Athens to the Saronic Gulf and on to the Peloponnese.
Even on a muggy January day the view was magnificent by the end of the meeting.

Unfortunately missing the view but present via Skype were Vice President George Brumder, awake in the early hours in southern California, and Jean Vaché the Councillor and Website Editor who always joins us from the Languedoc in France. John Rendall, the third Reserve Member who has now returned to the UK from Greece, was, alas, un-Skyped this time.

After a lengthy meeting, Fulla produced the enormous cake called a 'vasilopitta' containing a good-luck charm which is traditional in Greece at this time of year. President Caroline Harbouri had the task of cutting it into 32 pieces, starting with slices for the MGS itself and the 'poor gardener' then one each for the AC members and the branches. The winner this year was the UK branch so all our members in the UK can expect a great year in the garden and the lucky charm is on its way to the Branch Head Heather Martin.
