Orchids in Bloom
Photos by Lars Vestergaard

In March 2004 the Scandinavian Branch visited the Botanical Garden in Copenhagen to see the collection of mediterranean orchids which were in full bloom. The head gardener led a small group of members and friends through the general greenhouses, which we had not expected to see. Then he introduced us to the wonderful world of terrestrial orchids, many of which grow under mediterranean climate conditions. These plants are a part of a genetic study undertaken by the Botanical Institute of Copenhagen, but on the conclusion of the research project they will become part of the mediterranean collection.
